A 2023 American superhero movie called Blue Beetle is based on the DC superhero Jaime Reyes, also known as Blue Beetle. It is the fourteenth entry in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), produced by DC Studios and The Safran Company and released by Warner Bros. The movie, which stars Xolo Mariduea as Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle with Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez, was directed by ngel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

By the end of November 2018, Dunnet-Alcocer had been hired as the screenwriter for a Reyes-starring movie, and production had already started. In February 2021, Soto received a contract to helm the movie for the HBO Max streaming service. Mariduea was cast in the movie that August, and the release date was shifted to December for theaters. Early in 2022, additional casting was conducted before filming at Wilder Studios in Decatur, Georgia, as well as in El Paso, Texas, and Puerto Rico, took place from late May to mid-July.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Blue Beetle had its El Paso premiere on August 15, 2023, and it was made available in the US on August 18. Despite receiving mostly positive reviews, the movie bombed at the box office, earning only $120 million globally compared to its $104 million production budget, making it the lowest-grossing DCEU movie.
