John Hughes wrote and produced the 1990 American Christmas comedy film Home Alone, which was directed by Chris Columbus. starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, and Catherine O’Hara, is the first movie in the Home Alone series. Kevin McCallister, played by Culkin, is a young man who, after his family unintentionally leaves him behind on their Christmas vacation in Paris, defends his suburban Chicago home from a home invasion by two criminals.
While on vacation, Hughes had the idea for Home Alone. Originally, Warner Bros. was supposed to provide the funding and distribution for the movie. Warner Bros., however, decided to end the project after it went over its allocated budget. Twentyth Century Fox took over after covert conversations with Hughes. Soon after, Culkin and Columbus were employed. In February and May of 1990, filming was conducted on location in Illinois.
