Atlee, making his Hindi feature debut, co-wrote and directed the action thriller Jawan (/dʒʌwɑːn/, which translates to “Soldier”) in 2023.(5) Under Red Chillies Entertainment, Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma are the producers. Shah Rukh Khan plays a father and a son in the movie who work together to fight social corruption. In supporting parts are Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone (who is listed as making a special appearance), Priyamani, and Sanya Malhotra.
September 2021 marked the start of principal photography, which was shot in Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Rajasthan, and Aurangabad. Anirudh Ravichander wrote the background score and soundtrack for the movie, while Ruben handled the editing and G. K. Vishnu handled the photography. A few sequences were reshot concurrently for the Tamil version of the movie, including the ones starring Yogi Babu, Sethupathi, and Khan in the song “Zinda Banda” (Tamil for “Vandha Edam”).
