Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which translates to “Rocky and Rani’s Love Story,” is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy family drama film that was written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan, and Sumit Roy and directed by Karan Johar. In the movie, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt play an unconventional couple who decide to spend three months living with each other’s families before getting hitched. Their family members include Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bashir, and Kshitee Jog.
The movie, which is being made by Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios, was announced in July 2021 and would be Johar’s follow-up to Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). From August 2021 to March 2023, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Jammu & Kashmir served as the locations for principal photography. The pregnancy of Bhatt caused a few-month delay in filming and releasing. Manush Nandan oversaw the film’s cinematography, and Pritam wrote the score.
On July 28, 2023, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was released to enthusiastic acclaim from critics. It has grossed over 343 crore (US$43 million) globally, surpassing its production budget of 160 crore ($20 million) and marketing expenditure of 18 crore ($2.3 million). This makes it the sixth-highest-grossing Indian film and the third-highest-grossing Hindi film of the year.
