The Burial is a 2023 American legal drama movie that Maggie Betts and Doug Wright wrote, produced, and directed. It is loosely based on the true account of attorney Willie E. Gary’s legal battle with the Loewen funeral home, as told in Jonathan Harr’s article of the same name published in the New Yorker in 1999. It features Bill Camp, Jurnee Smollett, Mamoudou Athie, Tommy Lee Jones as O’Keefe, and Jamie Foxx as Gary.
On September 11, 2023, it had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. On October 6, 2023, Amazon MGM Studios gave it a limited distribution, and on October 13, 2023, Prime Video began streaming it.
