American musical romance fantasy film The Little Mermaid was released in 2023 and was directed by Rob Marshall from a script by David Magee. It is a live-action remake of Disney’s 1989 animated picture of the same name, which was itself largely based on the 1837 Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale of the same name. It was co-produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Lucamar Productions, and Marc Platt Productions.
Along with Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Art Malik, and Javier Bardem, singer Halle Bailey plays the title role in the movie. The Little Mermaid centers on the mermaid princess Ariel, who is attracted by the human world. Before time runs out, she strikes a bargain with the cunning sea witch Ursula to exchange her voice for human legs in order to win over Prince Eric, whom she saved from a shipwreck.
