Based on Steve Alten’s 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, The Meg is a 2018 science fiction horror film that was directed by Jon Turteltaub and written by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber. A group of scientists are forced to stop a 75-foot Megalodon shark from terrorizing a beach in the movie, which stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis. The book’s picture rights were originally purchased by Disney in the 1990s, but after several years in production limbo, the project was transferred to Warner Bros. By September 2016, most of the cast had joined, and production in New Zealand started the following month.
