Julius Avery’s 2023 supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist is based on Father Gabriele Amorth’s 1990 book An Exorcist Tells His Story and his 1992 book An Exorcist: More Stories. It was written by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos. Russell Crowe plays Amorth in the movie, and supporting actors Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, and Franco Nero also appear.
The rights to Amorth’s narrative were acquired by Screen Gems in 2020, and production then started. Filming was conducted in Ireland from August to October 2022 after a director change and screenplay adjustments.
A number of foreign nations began to release The Pope’s Exorcist on April 5, 2023. The United States followed on April 14. The movie made $76 million worldwide and earned a mixed bag of reviews from reviewers.
