‘Brahmastra’ simply is the story of Shiva who sets out in search of love and self-discovery. But during his journey, he meets many evil forces that threaten our existence which he needs to overcome. Ayan Mukerji’s epic drama fantasy takes inspiration from Indian mythology which is brought to life in the contemporary world and ably supported with extensive VFX.
‘ Brahmastra’ had us intrigued with its opening scenes where we are told about the superpowers of the Astra. The story quickly pivots to modern-day Mumbai where Shiva played by Ranbir Kapoor meets Isha portrayed by Alia Bhatt and falls head over heels for her. What follows is a typical Bollywood love story where we felt a lot of the essence of the plot was lost. There are mentions of the impending destruction and Astras but we never delve deep into it. Overall, the first half is not that engaging. The special effects are mediocre. Despite the issues, the plot was able to hold our attention to the core plot as we wanted to see what unfolded in the second half.
