Action comedy Jailer is a 2023 Indian Tamil film that was produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Along with Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Sunil, Mirnaa Menon, and Yogi Babu playing supporting parts, the movie also stars Rajinikanth in the lead role. It centers on a retired jailer who is trying to stop a bizarre idol smuggler.
The movie, which was given the working title Thalaivar 169 because it was Rajinikanth’s 169th film, was formally announced in February 2022. The official title Jailer was revealed in June. In Chennai, principal photography commenced in August 2022 and was completed in June 2023. Vijay Kartik Kannan and R. Nirmal handled the cinematography, while Anirudh Ravichander created the soundtrack.
On August 10, 2023, Jailer was released in theaters to favorable reviews from critics who commended the film’s screenplay, director, cast performances, characterization, and background score. The movie earned 566 crores in total revenue, ranking it third among Tamil films and second among Indian films of 2023.
