The 2018 American science fiction monster movie Pacific Rim Uprising was written by DeKnight, Kira Snyder, Emily Carmichael, and T.S. Nowlin and directed by Steven S. DeKnight, who was writing and directing his first feature film. The second film and second overall in the Pacific Rim franchise, it is the follow-up to the 2013 movie Pacific Rim.
The original film’s director, Guillermo del Toro, also acts as a producer on the project, which was created by the production companies Legendary Pictures and Double Dare You Productions. Along with John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Adria Arjona, and Zhang Jin, the first movie’s Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman return. Ten years have passed after the events of the first movie when the current one is set in 2035. After Kaiju, enormous sea monsters, are let back into the planet and set out to wipe it out, Jake Pentecost is given one final chance to carry on his father’s heritage.
