A 2023 American biographical sports drama film titled Gran Turismo will be directed by Neill Blomkamp and written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. It is an action film made by Columbia Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and 2.0 Entertainment that is based on the Polyphony Digital racing simulation video game series of the same name.
It chronicles the real life of Jann Mardenborough, a young Gran Turismo player who went on to become a successful racing driver. Archie Madekwe plays Mardenborough in the movie, which also stars Josha Stradowski, David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Darren Barnet, Emelia Hartford, Geri Halliwell Horner, and Djimon Hounsou.
A movie based on Gran Turismo was in the works, and Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti were producing; Alex Tse wrote the script. The movie was scheduled to be directed by Joseph Kosinski in June 2015 from a fresh screenplay written by Jon and Erich Hoeber. But as of February 2018, the Kosinski version was no longer progressing.
The movie was once more in development when it was reported in May 2022 that Blomkamp will be directing it in June. The principal cast members were revealed in September 2022, and additional cast members joined on in November. The following month, filming in Hungary started, and it was finished in December. The score, which was originally written by Stephen Barton, was later written by Lorne Balfe and Andrew Kawczynski.
