I Am Groot is a collection of American animated short films developed by Kirsten Lepore for the Disney+ streaming service, based on the Groot comic book character. Between the events of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and a mid-credits sequence from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), it follows Baby Groot on different escapades that bring him into trouble and contains characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Lepore serves as the series’ chief writer and director and the project is made by Marvel Studios Animation.
In addition to Bradley Cooper, who also appears in the first season, and Jeffrey Wright, who appears in the second season, Vin Diesel returns as the voice of Baby Groot from the MCU movies. I Am Groot was introduced in December 2020, and by August 2021, Luma Pictures had started developing the series’ photorealistic animation. Lepore’s involvement was made public that November.
As a part of Phase Four of the MCU, I Am Groot debuted its inaugural season on Disney+ on August 10, 2022, with five short films. Phase Five’s second season, which included five additional shorts, was made available on September 6, 2023.
