The 1999 superhero comedy film Inspector Gadget was helmed by David Kellogg and written by Kerry Ehrin and Zak Penn from a screenplay by Ehrin and Dana Olsen. The movie, loosely based on the same-named animated television series from the 1980s, stars Rupert Everett as Dr. Claw, Michelle Trachtenberg as Penny, and Dabney Coleman as Chief Quimby. Matthew Broderick plays the title role.

Dr. Brenda Bradford (played by Joely Fisher), Mayor Wilson (played by Cheri Oteri), and the Gadgetmobile (voiced by D. L. Hughley) are three of the new characters that were added. The narrative of the movie follows Inspector Gadget as he tries to thwart a sinister scheme hatched by the antagonist of the series, Dr. Claw. The main tower of Pittsburgh’s PPG Place, which resembles a castle, played a key role in the film, which was shot in Pittsburgh, Baton Rouge, and Los Angeles.
