After playing a supportive husband to Kangana Ranaut in Panga, actor-singer Jassie Gill is all set to explore the comedy genre again as a lovelorn aashiq in the Zee 5 comedy, Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai?, opposite Surbhi Jyoti, who makes her film debut with this. Ask Jassie about his experience on the film and he says it was amazing. “The work I had done before this made it easy to work in this film. It was shot and based in UP, so that was something I had to get out my comfort zone for. But the overall concept was really fun and the audience will enjoy that too,” he assures.
One might wonder that since Jassie has done so many Punjabi comedies before, it must have been easy to do a comedy here too. But he has a different point of view. “Punjabi comedies are a bit different. As that is my first language, when I do them, I can put in a little bit of my own from my side as I know what works there, but this was completely different. This is a situational comedy based on the idea that what would have transpired that someone wrote Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai on a currency note,” he says.
Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai became a huge viral meme on the internet when a Rs 10 note was discovered with the message ‘Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’ on it, and the whole incident was all over media. Ask Jassie about his reaction when he heard the concept of the film for the first time, and he says, “When I got to know about it, there was a curiosity within me to know what actually happened that someone wrote this on a currency note. That incident got so famous and so many girls were coming out saying they are Sonam Gupta. So that curiosity intrigued me in doing the film and I felt that I had to do it since it had a lot for me to do. It got me out of my comfort zone and my aim is that the next work that I do is also an improvement on my previous work before that.
