Based on Mai Jia’s 2007 novel Feng Sheng, Phantom (Korean: Hanja: RR: Yuryeong) is a South Korean spy action movie. Sol Kyung-gu, Lee Hanee, Park So-dam, Park Hae-soo, and Seo Hyun-woo were among the cast members under Lee Hae-young’s direction. On January 18, 2023, a theatrical release took place.
The plot opens in 1933, a year of Japanese colonialism of Korea, with an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate the new Japanese resident-general on his first day in Seoul. Five suspects are gathered by the Japanese colonial authority in a secluded hotel perched on a sea cliff in order to find “phantom,” a spy placed in Gyeongseong by an anti-Japanese group, within a day.
The suspects wander around the rooms and explore other people’s possessions to allay their suspicions while being caught up in the game of life and being closely watched by the Japanese authorities.
